Design more with less

The owners of ‘The Bromley’ approached &Dalecki with a vision to create a humble, light-filled family home that supports their relaxed lifestyle. With a love for gardening and mid-century Australian design, they wanted a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home that fostered a minimalist, calm atmosphere and strong connections between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Guided by the mantra ‘less is more’ and the site’s 320m² footprint, the design integrates elemental materials like render, shiplap cladding, and brickwork, unified in white paint and contrasted by timber details. A ‘hit-and-miss’ brick wall at the entrance seamlessly connects the interior and exterior.

The heart of the home is a combined kitchen, living, and dining area, where the ceiling rises to draw in northern light and southern breezes. A sculptural bulkhead over the kitchen, complemented by planting, softens the transition between spaces. Separate wings for the main bedroom and children’s areas maintain privacy while supporting family interaction.

The design prioritises views of the surrounding garden through carefully placed openings, creating a harmonious connection with natural light and ventilation. Inside, a crisp palette and timber accents reflect the architectural contrasts, while minimalist fittings and warm flooring reinterpret mid-century design to create a welcoming environment.

Despite its modest scale, ‘The Bromley’ achieves a ten-star energy rating, surpassing council requirements and ensuring a highly efficient, comfortable home. By optimising every square metre and prioritising quality materials, &Dalecki has crafted a beautiful, low-maintenance home that proves less can be more.
